Interactions Between the 3 Levels

Representational : this image is portraying a form of a musical instrumental horn, which people can recognize the basic shape from personal experience. This image tries to communicate to the viewers the beach music festival. The form of the horn has great impact on viewers because they can connect the horn with the musical festival. The abstractness of this visual image makes it more easier to see the horn  and also the sea animals to be able to see the shape of the animals. This image symbolically emphasizes beach through the sea animals incorporated in the horn.
Abstractlythis image outlines the shape of the animals and plants living at the bottom of a sea or lake . This visual image uses these beautiful sea animal shape without detail to catch the viewers attention. The simple outlines apply the audience to use their personal experience and knowledge to visualize the abstracted animals within their mind. The sea animals emphasize the theme of the music festival and also gives the viewer a taste of what to expect at the festival. These are used within this instrument in order to symbolize the activity within the ocean. With the arrangment of the animal to form into the shape of the instrument, it helps represent musical festival.
Symbolically: the color blue was used in order to symbolize the Sea and ocean. The color blue, along with the color white, is also used to symbolize the sky above the sea. The abstractness that is used in this image in order to portray the animals symbolizes all the animals within the sea and ocean. With the animals looking washed out, this symbolizes the water from the sea and the ocean. In result of this, the visual image seems more natural to the eye and can relate to the theme of the music festival. The basic structure of the horn symbolizes the instruments that are used in the music festival.
Connection: Without the connection of these three levels, this visual image would not communicate well to the viewers. If any of the levels were taken out of this image, the whole image would not be complete. Like Dondis states, "the process of creating a visual message can be described as a series of steps from a number of rough sketches probing for solutions to increasingly refined versions toward a final choice and decision". The steps that were taken for this visual image is the individual levels that contribute to the image. The final choice is the combination of the three levels and the decision is for the viewers to be able to view it.
