| This nike soccer cleat ad has a variety of motion that is implied in this visual mode. The vibrant pink lines that outline the cleats makes the illusion that the cleats are very fast through the use of intense expression of depth and color. The intensified light use catches the attention of the viewer and represents the movement that the cleats can go. Dondis states that movement is used to "describe compositional tensions and rhythms in visual data when what is being seen is fixed and unmoving" (64). The cleat is unmoving but with the vibrant pink lines, it looks as though they are moving. Even though its sitting still, using the three different images with white and pink lines streaking from right to left gives it motion. The rhythm that this ad has is where the lines outline the shoes until the last shoe on the bottom. The streaks on the left side are thinner and fade into the pink whereas the white lines on the right side are thicker and more vibrant. Another thing that pops out at the viewer is that the word "QUICK" is capitalized and larger than the other words. This adds on to the effect of the movement that is represented above with the cleats. This effect gives the viewer a sense of what the product is all about. |
| This photograph of a car is another example of movement/motion. This picture was taken at an angle, which helps show the movement that it has. Having the car being at a diagonal angle gives a feel that the car is going and turning on the road. This picture also relates to the basic elements of color and tone. With these elements, the right side is a little darker than the left side giving the sense that the lighting is different and can imply movement or motion. The background seems to look blurry to make the effect of the car speeding. When the eye focuses on the car, the background will appear to be more blurry when the car appears to be in motion. However, if the car was not in motion, the background would not be blurry. The front wheel appears to be turned slightly toward the left which gives the feel that it is turning to the left and the wheel also looks like its spinning which gives the feel of movement. The curve of the road as well gives the effect of motion due to the viewers experience of a runway being fast with cars racing on it. |
